Social Coding: It’s Your World, Hack It!

Now that’s what I call social. Get involved!

Welcome Back

You may have noticed by now that I am not in the room. Well done. So far so good. It turns out that my absence from school will be a few days longer than yours (this providing you have all turned up on time!) I’ll be back at school on Thursday, which gives you a couple lessons to do some work on your own.

First class (Monday)

As many of you will likely have been through airports recently, I’d like you to re-read the Case Study and answer the following questions:

  1. What impact will the rise of handheld computers/smart phones/tablets have on efficiency and security in an airport scenario?
  2. Name and describe one other service offered in modern airports.
  3. Also, briefly summarise each section of the Case Study: What is the major point being made in each?

Second class (Wednesday)

Hopefully you will have done a bunch of work on your dossiers over the holidays. I want you to design a data-entry validation test table for your program. State what data values you will use and explain why. State what outcome you expect from each type of input. (Remember, this is the point where we try to break it!) Test two or three inputs. & then if your results for a normal case don’t produce the expected results, fix it!

I’ll be back on Friday to check this stuff. We’re moving into the documentation phase soon. To get some ideas, have a look at some of the examples I’ve posted in the resource section to see how past students have done it. (SL – D1 & 2).

See you Friday.
